his year's forum, with the theme "CSR: New Partnership for Sustainable &

Inclusive Development", introduced trends of CSR policies, explore hot topics on social responsibility, analyze CSR issues faced by Chinese enterprises, interpret CSR index system, and share practices on CSR management. This forum is of great significance and guidance to the promotion of CSR by governmental and the fulfillment of social responsibility by enterprises.

With the enactment of the Companies Act 2013, too much has been said about 2% but it is equally very important to understand 'what is beyond 2%. It is imperative and vital to consider the wider developmental implications of CSR initiatives rather than money.

Here, organizations have the perfect opportunity to align with the dynamic demands of the business and social environment through effective participatory and cross sector collaboration leading to effective firm-society interaction through CSR. Collaborations and associations do make an effective business case with respect to achieving maximum impact for a given CSR capital investment. Hence, the focus of this year's discussion was on strategy, effective implementation, collaboration with various stakeholders for realising inclusive social development.

On October 30, 2014, leading personalities with powerful collective expertise in inclusive development and business came together to debate on how to adopt social issue, conceive, implement together with stakeholders through CSR and achieve the national mandate of social inclusive development from 10:30 am onwards at FICCI Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi.

Inaugural Session:

Dr Alwyn Didar Singh Secretary General, FICCI said that the India and Korea partnership has flourished due to close relationship in business operations over the years. FICCI is proud that this collaboration on Korea-India CSR dialogue on CSR policy continues till date.

Dr. Singh shared that while a lot has been written on the old form of Capitalism but from 1930 it has evolved to 'Progressive Capitalism'. This term states that we need to structure Philanthropy along with Capitalism in the business model. He emphasized at that at present there is a need to enter what is called 'Creative Capitalism' as shared by Bill Gates in 2008. It means that Industry needs to be part of development space. Dr.

Theme: New Partnership for Sustainable & Inclusive Development

Singh added that shared value should not be restricted to creating only value for the industry; rather it has to be creative that would add value to the company and community and this can be learned from this forum. Speaking on the difference between Shared value Concept and CSR concept, Dr. Singh said, while Shared value is perceived as only value for industry, CSR is seen as a responsibility.

He added that if one wants inclusive development, one must include government in it and to include everyone in it, one should weave the responsibility for inclusion in their processes and that is what defines- Corporate Social Responsibility.

Speaking with reference to Companies Act, 2013, he said, one needs to look at 'CSR Plus'. When one looks at framework laid down by the governmentt under Schedule VII related to Clause 135, there are no specific areas that are directly connected with the industry. 'CSR plus' is when industry innately feels that they have a responsibility in the development space.

Mr. Joon-gyu Lee, Hon'ble Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in his inaugural speech thanked FICCI for partnering with Korean Embassy for this forum as in the past two annual forums. He said FICCI is on the forefront of sensitizing the corporates on CSR.

Hon'ble Ambassador shared the importance of 3Ps (people profit planet) in CSR. This means that corporates should do business in a way that it strikes the right balance within the 3Ps. If the companies while devising their strategy take these three Ps into consideration, they can reap long term dividends. He emphasised that corporates as responsible citizens must factor in the impact of their business on national environment and execute a part of their profit in investing in environment friendly technologies and measure for conservation and natural resources.

Further, Hon'ble Ambassador share that both Indian and Korean government are fully committed to promote CSR activities of their respective companies in partnership with all the stakeholders. Korea is one of India's most important trade and commerce partners. Given the shift in India's orientation to conduct foreign relation with countries predominately on economic and cultural consideration, he sees a renewed interest in Korean companies in coming to India for investment.

He said that, PM Modi consistent assurance to address all blockages that hamper business in India has been a catalytic impact on the investors' mind. Now there is a positive atmosphere as far as the CSR is concerned. If Korean companies follow the best CSR practices. They can easily endear themselves to Indian consumers and increase brand recognition and thereby increase their profitability.

Korean embassy in New Delhi has made it a part of its top priorities to promote CSR standards in Korean companies. Mr. Gyu also shared that the Korean Embassy has started regular meeting amongst Korean CSR personals to cooperatively do good CSR work in India. He added that CSR is an opportunity for business to be responsible and at the same time be profitable. Doing good to society is doing good to the business. This well-rehearsed mantra is famous amongst all Korean companies. Many companies have started ripping the benefit of CSR but some are yet to set out for CSR journey. Even

to spread the message of responsible business that streaks a right balance between 3 Ps.

He concluded his speech with a hope the forum will open opportunity to exchange views and ideas on important subject of CSR and also reform the movement towards social responsible practices

Sibani Swain, IES, Economic Adviser, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, GoI appreciated the efforts of the Korean embassy for sensitizing its companies on CSR in India. CSR is not a new concept but it is for the first time anywhere in the world that this mandated responsibility has made a way in the legislation in India.

Indian corporate business has emerged as the strongest prime mover of economic growth of India. This is attributable to the way corporates business has moved and emerged progressively in these years. Today private sector shares one-third of gross domestic capital formation and one-fourth of gross domestic saving of India. However with this, there is also rising challenge of sustainability and continuity.

The CSR under companies Act 2013 is all about improving the quality of life of the local community and society at large. Under the act, CSR activities need to be undertaken in project /program mode. These activities are to be undertaken on regular basis within a defined time frame and must have a definable impact of society. The responsibility of monitoring such activities and evaluating the impact thereof is bestowed upon the CSR committee of the company itself and not with the government.

Ms. Swain said that it was reassuring for her to hear from Hon'ble ambassador to Korea that there would be constant monitoring and reviewing by the CSR activities of Korean companies by the embassy.

Explaining the CSR clause as put forth by GOI, MS. Swain said though as per schedule 7, many activities are mentioned for liberal interpretation but despite that many activities even in the list will not be considered CSR by GOI as any activity undertaken in the normal course of business would not be accounted as CSR.

Here activities carried for environmental sustainability or labour welfare in normal course of business as mandated under various laws, will not be treated as mandatory 2% CSR expenditure.

She said, It is Important to understand that CSR should not to be contemplated as resource gap filling. As central and state government already spend sufficiently over 11 L crores of rupees on social sector activities which is 10% GDP. Significance of CSR is a way corporates can change the life and livelihood patterns of poor population in the neighbourhood. It is about inculcating good will amongst people, introducing corporate management amongst the development process, bridging the trust deficit.

Jyoti Vij , DSG , FICCI, quoting FICCI Secretary General Dr. A.Didar Singh statement in her opening remarks said, it is remarkable to see the efforts being made by the Korean government in bringing the companies in aggregating their efforts in CSR in not only country but outside the country. This is exemplary and one definitely needs to learn from this.

FICCI has also been striving to contribute in this agenda. FICCI is working on aggregating the efforts of the company needs. It has emplaned a large number of NGOs already working in the domain of socio-economic development, which can help the company to identify the credible partners and the projects already ready.

Based on the corporates requirements, FICCI is helping them connect with the right partners. What FICCI intends to do is hand hold the company right from the inception stage of CSR project to monitoring and evaluation of the impact assessment etc.

FICCI is trying to aggregate efforts on the PM step towards "Swatch-bharat". At the end Ms. Vij thanked the Hon'ble ambassador for partnering with FICCI.

Samsung is a global company with presence in over 80 countries with 90,000 employees all over the world. It has annual sales of 220 billion, he said. Most of the Samsung products reflect their CSR strategy. Example, their phone comes with special features for People with different needs. The key objective for Samsung's CSR is to create a positive change for people, helping them live life full of possibility. Today Samsung has set up 5 pillars of CSR which includes education, employability, community - health, sports and outreach.

For education, Samsung equips schools with smart devices to resolve education gaps and foster a smart education environment for students from economically disadvantages backgrounds. Samsung's smart class uses electronic devices such as the smart board, notebooks, printers and tablets as learning platform for these children.

They have over 200 smart classes till date.

Under employability, Samsung provides ICT training program to help disadvantaged youth groups to acquire skills for better employment. Umash Dhal, Vice President (HR), LG Electronics said that as a leading corporate in India, LG believes that corporate contribution to society when guided by self-interest results in long term goodwill building, and has therefore endeavoured to assume responsibility for the needs of its people, the environment and the society. LG has consistently looked beyond its immediate business environment to address larger societal issues. This concern springs from the belief that a true corporate vision must embrace the wider community rather than just shareholders, customers and suppliers.

At LG the message is clear: creating profits can and should go hand-in-hand with generating goodwill. A slew of numerous initiatives have been undertaken by LG ever since its inception in India. The company has been actively involved in providing social benefits to the disadvantaged sections of the society. In the CSR roadmap in India till today today, they have covered main concerns of Health , Hygiene , Education and environment. From 2014, they are now focusing on skill development and Social awareness.

Mr. Dhal also shared that LG India has worked jointly with Prayas, a Delhi-based NGO by undertaking campaigns / activities for the welfare and upliftment of Underprivileged Street and slum children and providing them services in the field of education, health care, shelter, vocational training and other rehabilitation programmes. The company also tied up with HELPAGE India, the country's largest voluntary organisation working for the cause and care of disadvantaged older people.

LG also takes care of 24 villages around Greater Noida out of which six have been adopted formally. The company has on its pay roll three doctors who visit these villages daily and offer Free Medical Care, which comprises of free check ups and a free distribution of medicines.

LG's commitment to contribute substantially to the community led to the formation of the 'Tinkha,' a community development club consisting of 10 people. It recently organized Blood Donation Camp where 172 employees donated blood in one day.

LG is also generating self-employment opportunities for the people in the form of tailoring, knitting etc. with the help of an NGO named, Jan Shikshan Sansthan. LG is also imparting repairing training for the youth on refrigeration and CTV.

In the field of Animal Husbandry, a veterinary doctor from World Buffalo Trust visits a village every day and provides medicines for the domestic animals. Recently, a vaccine drive was also initiated to immunize all the animals in the 24 villages around Greater Noida. The drive will continue for the next 6 months.

Apart from the planned activities, LG has always donated generously to sudden natural calamities like the recent Tsunami disaster and the Mumbai floods.

In the way forward, LG will be advocating Swaach Bharat , Ropad safety. Establishment of training academies and partner with ITI's.
